Life at Open Circle
Open Circle is a theologically liberal, LGBT friendly Christian community located in the south metro of the Twin Cities. At Open Circle you will find:
Journey: We are a people who experience doubt and questioning as a positive part of the journey of faith. We are more interested in the willingness to question and learn and listen to a variety of perspectives than we are in a person's adherence to particular doctrines. We invite "bored Christians and curious pagans" and people of other faith perspectives to journey with us in our faith community.
During the 20+ years that Open Circle has been in existence, we have been a transitional community for many people: people who find that their current faith community no longer works for them, people who aren't sure that church or Christianity is important to them anymore, people who are unaffiliated with any faith community but are looking for a safe place to explore their spirituality. We welcome everyone. Some stay with us for awhile and move on; some stay for ever. We are OK with either decision. If you are looking for a safe place to "figure things out" we invite you to check us out.
Community: We enjoy being together. There is no flight for the doors after Sunday service. People stay to visit with friends old and new. We look forward each month to sharing food together in a common meal after service. We have people who are passionate about cooking, knitting, reading, camping, gardening, and more. We even have a group that gets together during the winter months to tie flies, and a larger group that likes to fly fish together. We care deeply about climate change, clean water, healthy food, and hunger. For that reason many of us are involved, sometimes individually and sometimes together in politics, environmental action, cleaning up rivers or buckthorn, working at a shelter or packing food for hungry people. We have an annual camping trip to a state park that is well-attended by families. We also get together to play cards, picnic, or go bowling. We worship together, serve together, learn together, and play together.
